TERRORCOTTA!

Sasha Feldman is obsessed with fantastical creatures, myths, mystics, the occult… and above all, how these things are experienced through a childhood lens. Until recently, Feldman’s works have focused on distilling the essence of religious carvings and symbols into mysterious abstractions. TERRORCOTTA! veers toward specificity, telling cautionary tales and cultural myths through the visual language of B-movies, pulp novels, and comic books.

From Chinese tomb guardians to Andean vessels, ceramics have long served as a medium well-suited to fantastic beasts. TERRORCOTTA! Is a medieval bestiary rendered in clay that speaks to our current cultural climate. Mistrust and paranoia breed misinformation, which invariably permeates popular culture, literature, and the stories we tell ourselves. Sasha Feldman is surfing our Goyaesque present, gathering up our demons, our monsters, our demons, and our darkest fears, and bringing them into the light.
